Who are We?
Welcome to CIGS website. Prior to Fall 2002, no formal organization existed to exclusively represent graduate INFO students. The Council of INFO Graduate Students (CIGS), established Fall of 2002, hopes to change this.
Our Mission
The Council of INFO Graduate Students (CIGS), serving as the graduate student body in the Department of Information and Operations Management at Mays Business School, exists to share and discuss information important to all INFO graduate and professional students and to advocate for their interests in dealing with the University, its constituents, and all other appropriate entities.
Our Purpose
Membership Requirements
1. Members must at least meet the following requirements:
2. Be a graduate/professional INFO student.
3. Be enrolled in, at least 4 credit hours in a regular semester.
4. Be required to satisfy all Texas A&M regulations.
5. In the event that a member fails to meet any requirements in the Constitution or by-laws, the member shall be determined to be an unqualified member and automatically shall be subject to removal. The executive committee shall be informed that the student can no longer be a member.
6. Members will contribute to the work of the CIGS via actively serving on CIGS internal committees/Disciplinary Review Committee/Ad hoc committees.
7. Members are expected to bring matters important to themselves to the CIGS.
Officer Requirements
1. Have at least a 3.00 GPR at the time of their election and post at least a 3.00 GPR for the preceding regular semester or the two preceding summer terms at the time of election and during the term of office.
2. Be in good standing with the University and enrolled in at least 4 credit hour in a regular semester during the term of office for continuing registration.
3. Be seeking a graduate or professional degree from Texas A&M University.
4. Be subject to removal as Officer by CIGS and/or CIGS’s official University advisor should the individual fail to maintain the requirements described in (A), (B), and (C).
Committees
1. Executive Committee - The members of the Executive Committee of CIGS shall consist of the Officers and the faculty members. CIGS Disciplinary Review Committee Chair and CIGS Advisors are non-voting members of the Executive Committee. In addition, the Executive Committee, by vote, may appoint additional, non-voting members to the executive committee. The previous president may serve as a non-voting member of the Executive Committee. CIGS executive committee may speak for CIGS body during the summer term. All decisions during such time require a two-thirds vote of the executive committee for approval. The Executive Committee shall annually examine the constitutions and by-laws to determine if any changes have been made that are inconsistent with the mission and goals of CIGS and report such findings to the General Body and initiate a review if necessary.
